Why am I sore when I work out?

Weight training causes micro-tears to the muscles being trained; this is generally known as micro trauma. These micro-tears in the muscle contribute to the soreness felt after exercise, called delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS).

What is the best plan for me to gain muscle?

The best plan would to eat several times a day and work out with a high intensity and high weight combination.

What kinds of protein should I take?

Depends on what your overall goals are, but some good choices are include casein and whey proteins.

What kinds of foods are high in protein?

Chicken, beef, pork, fish, eggs and dairy foods are high in protein, as are some nuts, seeds, beans and lentils.
